Independent
Video Awards
The 2009 IVies
Welcome
to the Fourth Annual Independent Video Awards, or
"The IVies".
The Ivies were created to provide our own effort and
recognizing excellence in Independent Filmmaking.
With the advent of newer technology, there are greater
opportunities for independent filmmakers and we wish
to encourage the highest form of art possible.
While the first few years of this effort are likely
to focus on the top films, we are hoping that this
will develop into recognition of further positive
influences on the medium.
This is chosen simply by the owners of this website
and are not influenced in any way by studios, distributors
or others. In fact, no one has contacted us at all
and we are not contacting the winners of these awards.
This year there are many quality films that are out
there. But a unique film that has a true independent
feel and has an influence that should be aspired to
is Moon directed by Duncan Jones.
Sam Bell is a neurotic astronaut stuck on the moon for a three year solitary tour running a Helium 3 mining facility. The isolation leads to unique situations that are a tapestry of suspenseful delight. Well received at Sundance and other festivals, it received very limited distribution, but is well worth the effort to see before it wanes. Movies like this only come around once in a blue moon.
So, to the makers of Moon, congratulations
on winning the 2009 IVy for Best Independent Feature.
