Independent
Video Awards
The 2006 IVies
Welcome
to the First Annual Independent Video Awards, or "The
IVies".
The Ivies were created to provide our own effort and
recognizing excellence in Independent Filmmaking.
With the advent of newer technology, there are greater
opportunities for independent filmmakers and we wish
to encourage the highest form of art possible.
Because this is a first effort, we're going to keep
it simple. What's the best film?
Over the first few years, we'll probably do the same
and slowly expand into a larger selection of winners.
We want to provide recognition for films that have
a positive influence on the medium.
This is chosen simply by the owners of this website
and are not influenced in any way by studios, distributors
or others. In fact, no one has contacted us at all
and we are not contacting the winners of these awards.
This year there are many quality films that are out
there. One quite frankly has outshined the rest, getting
mainstream recognition for what amounts to be a very
simple independent feature. The broader audience acceptance
is something that all such features should aspire
to, and for this reason we recognize Little Miss
Sunshine directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie
Faris.
This film featured a stellar cast that most independent
features can only dream of. With Greg Kinnear, Alan
Arkin and Steve Carell, it's hard to go wrong. With
other strong actors popping in with smaller roles,
such as Second City and Mr. Show alum Jill
Talley and Bryan Cranston, the feature just doesn't
let up. Some extremely touching moments and bizarre
circumstances punctuate a very personal and strangely
inspirational film.
So, to the makers of Little Miss Sunshine and
writer Michael Arndt, congratulations on winning the
first-ever 2006 IVy for Best Independent Feature.
